Common Causes of Headaches and Their Cures

Headache Cures

A staggering 80 percent of the population suffers from headaches during some point in their lives. Surprisingly, only 30 percent of headache sufferers report to suffer from migraines. That means that the majority of headaches are the common headache variety with common causes. And headaches with common causes have common cures.

If you suffer from recurrent headaches, you need to figure out what is causing the headaches so that you can reduce or eliminate them. Here are some common causes of headaches:

* Dehydration - Most people do not drink enough water to hydrate their bodies. An average adult needs 8 to 10 glasses of water each day. If you are not drinking this much water, you could be dehydrated. Sorry, coffee and sodas do not count.

* Stress and tension - There is no doubt that people are stressed and that stress is impossible to avoid. The problem with stress is that it leads to tension of the shoulders which causes headaches. Frequent breaks and spurts of physical activity during stressful periods may help.

* Sleep - Changes in sleep patterns can bring about headaches. Not sleeping enough or sleeping too much can dull the senses and cause a headache. Be sure to follow a consistent schedule for sleep.

* Sinus trouble - Congested sinuses and dry sinuses can cause extremely painful headaches. Keep sinuses under control with medications and a humidifier. Do not suffer with a sinus headache.

As you can see, many common headaches can be avoided easily without taking pain medications. Before you take your next headache medicine, stop to figure out what's causing the headache and fight it from its source.
